RECAP: January 2017

New year, new city council meetings, same level of quality that our readers have come to expect. In January we saw anger, excitement, and–my favorite–freshman council members at their first meetings!

Also, it ended up being a great month here for the Midwestern United States. We chronicled:

7 council meetings

In 7 states

With a combined population of

853,500 people

We saw

1 brand new council member talk about her very first meeting with me

Dozens of facial expressions from a sign language interpreter

53 scarecrows (and that’s all the context you’ll get)

1 new installment of our storytelling project

$49,500 worth of tremendous, simply amazing fireworks

5 podcast interviews, including 1 council member being recalled and 1 mayor sworn in by a drag queen

And it all happened thanks to these not-bad hombres and mujeres:

Waconia, Minnesota city council

Meridian, Idaho city council

Richmond, Virginia city council

Omaha, Nebraska city council

Moore, Oklahoma city council

Alamosa, Colorado city council

Hutchinson, Kansas city council
